- Ahmed Hassan: "Dubai has a long history in maintaining and enriching the successful Arab and Islamic experiences"
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is organizing the "Dubai International Exhibition of the Arabic Calligraphy Art" in collaboration with the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) of Istanbul. The exhibition begins on February 24 and runs till February 28.
During its current session, the exhibition will host 48 calligraphers from within and outside the United Arab Emirates, who will come from various Arab and Islamic countries, including the UAE, Iran, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Spain, Egypt, Palestine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sudan and Saudi Arabia. This year, the Turkish pavilion will be the guest of honor and will feature more than 17 distinguished artists and calligraphers.
After the success of the Dubai International Exhibition of the Arabic Calligraphy Art at its previous session, where the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing had won the title of the Best Organizing Exhibitions, it is expected that this year the exhibition will chalk up more success and display its support to Arabic and Islamic culture, history and art, by enshrining merit and excellence at various levels and areas.
Referring to the activities and events that will be found at the exhibition, the Head of the Organizing Committee of the exhibition, Mr. Ahmed Hassan, said that the show, which will last for four days, will bring together under one roof an elite bouquet of artists and creators of calligraphy from around the world. He stressed this year's exhibition will include new and different events, which will further underline the success of the exhibition, the exhibitors and those in charge of events.
“The Arabic Calligraphy Art exhibition will shine with dozens of creative paintings embellished with Arabic calligraphy, and will put in front of everyone experiences and special creations derived from the authenticity of Arab heritage which is rooted in the Islamic civilization. This profoundly serves the cause of Arabic calligraphy and the Arab and Islamic inheritance,” Mr. Hassan said.
He said that one of the main reasons why the exhibition that has specialized in the Arabic Calligraphy Art has met with increasing success in its previous sessions, is because it has moved forward while translating the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, by keeping in mind the supreme task of upholding the creativity of Arab and Islamic Arts. He pointed out that Dubai has a long history of maintaining and enriching the successful Arab and Islamic experiences at various levels, and its continued support to the Arabic Calligraphy Art is always directed to this aim.
He noted that the Dubai International Exhibition of the Arabic Calligraphy Art included a number of arts and cultural events that reinforced its message, promoted its Arab, regional and international positions, while opening the door for more creative experiences amongst the participants. It also enhances and heightens the rich and creative sides of Arabic calligraphy, he said. Hassan pointed out that this year's exhibition includes the crème de la crème of participants whose local, regional and global experiences have contributed to the upgrading of the Arabic Calligraphy Art to a global level.
