University Hospital Supports Premier Arab-American Medical Symposium in Dubai
|
The University Hospital, part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of TatweerDubai, is supporting the prestigious National Arab American Medical Association’s (NAAMA) first ever symposium in Dubai. The four-day symposium, which is taking place in the Palace Hotel, Burj Dubai, brings together a distinguished gathering of leading Arab healthcare professionals from the USA and Middle East.
In conjunction with DHCC, University Hospital’s support for the event reflects its strong commitment to healthcare excellence and to building relations with the most talented practitioners in order to deliver quality patient care. Dr. Fatma Al Marashi, Medical Director of University Hospital, will be speaking at the symposium about the latest advances in diabetes, which affects 25% of the UAE population, ranking the UAE second highest worldwide for diabetes prevalence. In addition, delegates will tour DHCC facilities and hear about the opportunities open to them.
Established in 1975, NAAMA is a non-profit, non-political, educational and humanitarian organization whose members are leading American healthcare professionals of Arab descent. The symposium in Dubai is convening around 100 NAAMA members, as well as, invited speakers from UAE-based institutions who excel in their respective fields of expertise.
Dr Ayesha Abdullah, Senior Vice President of DHCC, said: "We are delighted to be supporting NAAMA’s symposium. Our ambition is for DHCC to become a globally recognized brand synonymous with high quality, patient-centred care. We are already attracting a significant number of international healthcare professionals to DHCC; this symposium provides an opportunity for our Arab American colleagues to see how far we have come in the last few years and what we can offer talented international practitioners."
Jim Kingsbury, Chief Executive Officer of University Hospital, said: “The University Hospital is central to DHCC’s vision and will offer the latest advances in clinical care, educational resources and medical research. To this effect, we aim to build a talent pool of both local and international experts who can help realise our vision. We can only further benefit from adding leading Arab American physicians to our healthcare community.”
Mouhanad Hammami MD, Executive Director of NAAMA, said: “We have chosen Dubai for this year’s annual convention as a direct response to our members’ request who collectively voted on the grounds of Dubai being the most exciting and interesting place in the world for Arab American medical professionals.”
Nabil Khoury MD, President of NAAMA, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with our colleagues in Dubai in building a bridge of excellence between the US and the UAE. Our members include second or third generation Arab Americans who are looking for an opportunity to return to the region. DHCC is one institution that offers such opportunities for healthcare professionals.”
Scheduled for completion in 2011, the University Hospital will be equipped with advanced technological and intellectual resources, setting new standards in integrated clinical, educational and research excellence for Dubai and the region. The 1.40-million square foot University Hospital will offer multidisciplinary care in addition to a wide range of healthcare specialties. It will accommodate 400 beds and provide a mix of services, including inpatient and outpatient consultations and surgeries, imaging, laboratory and invasive procedures, and non-trauma emergency care.
The latest in a series of significant international healthcare projects, the University Hospital will be physically connected and academically affiliated with Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC), also a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center.
