- DEWA customers will now be able to settle utility bills through their mobile phones
Dubai eGovernment has announced that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has joined its newly launched mPay service, a mobile payment service designed to provide an efficient and comfortable means of paying government fees in Dubai. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between Dubai eGovernment and DEWA on the sidelines of GITEX Technology Week 2008, where Dubai eGovernment is participating along with 26 other government entities at its stand B8-1, Hall 8 of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The mPay service utilises the highly secure Dubai eGovernment ePay system, which is compliant with "Verified by Visa" and Master Card''s "SecureCode" programs. The mPay facility was initially launched to provide electronic recharge of Salik accounts, and now is being expanded to facilitate payment of DEWA bills.
Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment, said, “We are pleased that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has joined our mPay service, which will certainly benefit a large number of their customers who can now settle their utility bills through their mobile phones. The increasing adoption and success of the mPay service reflects our continuous commitment to take Dubai’s electronic governance infrastructure to higher levels of efficiency.”
Commenting on the development, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, General Manager,Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said, “We are highly impressed with the reliability and robustness of the mPay service, which we believe will be equally appreciated by our customers. Given the convenience mPay offers, we expect large scale adoption of this service in the coming months.”
Registration for the mPay service is free and clients just have to sign up on mPay''s web portal once. After completing the required entry fields, an activation code will be sent to the user''s email address. The activation code will then have to be sent via SMS to 4488 using the user''s registered mobile phone number. After this process, a PIN will be sent via SMS to the user, which will be used for all mPay transactions. The user may also retrieve a lost PIN by simply resending the activation code using the registered mobile phone to 4488.
