Arab Gulf water flowed through canals built by Al Hanoo Holding, outlining 10 islands, to form, alongside 3 sections of north eastern coast in the emirate of Sharjah near Al Mintaqa Al Hurra in the Hamriyah area, the main scenic view in Al Nujoom Islands City, the most unique project in the emirate, which covers 60 million square feet, with its canals, gardens, parks and buildings.
Water flow marks the beginning of phase two work characterized by the development of infrastructure, which includes the construction of wide-streets, internal bridges connecting the islands with one another, large upper bridges connecting the project with surrounding main roads, gardens, and car parks carefully distributed throughout the project, in addition to providing electricity power grids and water and deflation services.
Sheikh Abdullah Al Shakrah, Chairman of Al Hanoo Holding, developer of Al Nujoom Islands project, said “These water canals were made with the highest international standards to ensure water circulation inside the canals is done according to ebb and flow movements to form water passages and deflation areas without causing any harm to the surrounding nature. Thus, water circulates periodically within 9 days, a faster rate than the known global average for water circulating in canals, ranging between 12 and 15 days, thus making Al Nujoom Islands City the first to accomplish this feat on both a local and international level, despite the large width of the canals that reach 400 meters in some areas”.
Al Nujoom Islands canals has added large coastal space to the north eastern coast of Sharjah emirate, doubling the 3 km, which started near Al Hamriyah area, to more than 10 times in area, extending the coast-front to 35 km by way of canal extension deep into the land. The extended coast-front, together with green areas, forms 60% of the project, which is considered to be the most environmentally aware project due to the nature persevering standards taken into consideration while working on the projects.
Al Nujoom Islands, with costs surpassing AED 18 billion, consists of 13 sections; the first three sections are represented by the main grounds for the project, alongside 10 islands shining together enriched by the green areas of gardens, parks, 40 residential and office towers, 145 residential buildings, 4 hotels, two spas, 1400 villas, 5 marine clubs and two entertainment centers, in addition to a large business center that includes one hyper market and nine small centers. All these facilities make the project one of the most distinct projects among Arab Gulf countries in terms of the large investments and large building area.
