UAE University Team To Compete In International Law Moot Court Competition

Six brilliant students of UAE University Shari’ah and Law will compete in an international moot court competition in the United States next month.
DLA Piper, Dubai based global law firm, will sponsor the Team to compete in the Jessup Moot Competition 2008. The $20,000 sponsorship is part of a programme of CSR activities of the firm.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, now in its 49th year, is the world’s largest moot court competition, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries.
The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice. Thousands of law students from around the world will compete in international rounds taking place between 6-12 April 2008, at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C., USA.
The student team comprising Buthaina Qasem Mohamed Awadh, Fatuma Omar Farah, Hessa Abdullah Mohamed A.R.A. Al Hebsi, Ahmed Manea Salmeen Baqouri AlAwbthani, Faisal Ahmed Matar Malalla AlHosani, Khamis Saleh Nasser Abdulla Al Mansouri will be accompanied by Habiba Saif Salem Rashed Al Shamsi, Riad M.Haidar AlAjlani as chaperones. -The Dean of the College of Shari’ah and Law at the UAE University, Professor Jassem al Shamsi said.
Commenting on the sponsorship arrangements Professor Jassem al Shamsi said, "We approached DLA Piper for sponsorship as they have a strong commitment to the Middle East Region and empowering Emiratis."
DLA Piper’s sponsorship includes paying airfares, accommodation and expenses for six students and two chaperones to fly to Washington D.C. and participate in the competition to help encourage young Emiratis to consider law as a promising career path.
Wafa Tarnowska, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Co-ordinator at DLA Piper commented, "We want our projects not only to inspire our own people but to inspire the people in the country where we live and work, in this instance the UAE."
