Sam Bardaouil, Assistant Professor of Art History in the American University in Dubai, is taking part in two major academic conferences in NYC. The first one, New Directions in the Humanities, will be held at Columbia University where Sam will present a paper entitled: Kitsch Humanities vs. Humanities Anecdotes. The paper focuses on highlighting particular cultural factors that have played in promoting an interest in pursuing an education in the humanities within given periods. Departing from that, the paper attempts at exposing the lack of such climates and suggests means of reintroducing them into the academic community.

The second conference Professor Bardaouil will attend will take place at the New York University’s prestigious TISCH School of Arts and is in conjunction with the Armory Show, one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs. While there, Sam will discuss the importance of art in cross cultural dialogue. In his paper, Incidents of Synthesis, Sam addresses the semantics and phenomenology of incidental art works that reflect an authentic attempt at initiating dialogue between opposing cultures. He suggests principles for a socially conscious discursiveness that leads to a more publicly engaged Art.

The two papers will be published in the International Journal of New Directions in the Humanities and the Journal of Arts and Society, both of which are highly acclaimed academic publications.
